What is collagen?

Collagen is a multifunctional protein that plays a key role in the human body. It is a part of most connective tissue and acts as an integral structural element of skin, tendons, ligaments, bones, cartilage and blood vessel walls. Collagen makes up about 30 % of the total weight of all proteins present in the body, with the highest concentration in the dermis: approximately 70% dry weight.

Importance for humans

Collagen can be considered one of the body’s fundamental building blocks, as it is directly involved in the processes of skin regeneration and serves as the main component in the formation of extracellular connective tissue. The unique structure of this protein gives it its flexibility, a property that makes it key to skin elasticity.Furthermore, it has been proven that collagen is capable of absorbing and retaining more than 30 times its own weight in moisture. This feature makes it an important component in maintaining the water balance of the body.

Salvecoll® and Collagen

Salvecoll® can restore the functionality of natural collagen. Its main component is a purified protein that copies the entire structure of the collagen fibers in the body (triple helix). The gel is injected into the skin in areas of tissue damage, filling the existing defect and activating the natural production of collagen. After 4-8 treatments (1 every 2 weeks), tissue damage disappears completely.
